ATA Airways

ATA airways is an American Airline which is based at Indianapolis. This is a low cost airline. ATA operates airlines from a hub which is at Chicago Airport . ATA airline was started in the year August 1973 as American Trans Air (ATA) for the Ambassadair travel club. The name of the first Aircraft Boeing 720 was named as "Miss Indy”, a second Boeing 720 ("Spirit of Indiana") which was added in the year 1978. In the year March 1981, ATA got its common-air carrier certificate.

The ATA airways were started by the year 1981 with a fleet of eight Boeing 707's based in Indianapolis . By the year 1984, the airline replaced 707's with Boeing 727-100's. The scheduled service flights started in the year 1986. During the year 1991, ATA airways provided its service to US military. In the year 2000, ATA placed bulk orders for new Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 757-300 aircraft, in the aim of expanding its fleet for additional flights from Midway. In the year 2006, ATA commenced service between Houston Hobby (KHOU) and LaGuardia Airport (KLGA). The airline also added Ontario, CA in the service area. But for the last two years no new services were added. On October 18th, 2006, ATA Airlines announced that Subodh Karnik will be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with effect from January 1, 2007.
