| Sterling Airlines is one of the low cost airlines which were found in the year 2005 when Sterling European Airlines and Maersk Air merged and is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Now Sterling Airlines has been bought by FL Group that owns the Iceland Air. The founder of Sterling Airlines was Ejlif Krogager, also the founder of a travel agency in the year 1962. It owned two Douglas DC-6B aircrafts for the service of their travel agency. In the year 1965, the airlines received their first Caravelle type jet plane. In 1968, the Sterling Airlines was out of Tjæreborg Group to operate as a separate airline company. Sterling Airlines celebrated its 25 th anniversary in the year 1987 which then owned 19 aircrafts and had about 1,300 staffs. As the airlines went bankrupt in the year 1993, the airlines were re-created as Sterling Airlines in the year 1994 with about 3 aircrafts. In the year 1996, the airline was owned by Norwegian shipping company. It became a full fledged low cost airline in the year 2001.
